UPDATE: Police have carried out a controlled explosion and are working to return services to normal operations. You can find the statement here.

NO trains will run from or to Glasgow Queen Street station’s upper level until police “deem it safe”, ScotRail has announced.

The train operator issued a statement just before 8.30pm on Wednesday evening, as emergency services continued to deal with an instrument at Buchanan Bus Station.

Police shut down the bus station after a report of a “potential suspicious item” at around 1.10pm.

An EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) unit was called in, and people were asked to avoid the area.

The nearby Glasgow Caledonian University was evacuated, and Killermont Street, which runs between Buchanan Bus Station and the Royal Concert Hall, was closed to traffic and pedestrians. The concert hall cancelled its planned show.

They added that the EOD team was "at the scene and enquiries remain ongoing".

Photos from the scene showed the bomb squad moving into the station and a robot being deployed.

It said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident near to Glasgow Queen Street station.

“Until the police deem it safe to run trains again, no trains will run into and out of Glasgow Queen Street High Level.”

The Royal Concert Hall: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, this evening’s event has been cancelled. All ticket holders will be contacted in due course. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Glasgow Subway also temporarily suspended all trains at around 8.30pm, before resuming service some 30 minutes later.

A First Glasgow spokesperson said earlier in the day: "Due to an ongoing emergency incident at Buchanan Bus Station, services are currently unable to enter or leave the station which is currently closed to passengers.

"Emergency diversion information will be posted as soon as possible."

Stagecoach and McGill's have also issued updates detailing which bus services have been cancelled.

A spokesperson for Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) said: "Apologies all, Buchanan Bus Station is currently closed to passengers while police deal with an emergency incident.

"There is no access to the station for passengers and no buses are entering or leaving the station.

"We will update you when the station reopens. Apologies for the inconvenience."
