A SCOTTISH venue rejected a booking inquiry for the Reform UK conference.

The National understands that the Perthshire venue, which we will not name, was informed by Police Scotland of a risk of protests and rejected Nigel Farage's party's inquiry.

Stand Up To Racism is set to collaborate with Perth Against Racism and protest Reform UK's Scotland conference, which is being held in Perth at a different venue.

The anti-racism groups released a statement on social media branding the conference "shambolic" and said the party tried to "run away" from protesters after it revealed Nigel Farage's party had attempted to change their original conference venue.

The conference will be held at the original venue, The Royal George Hotel, and the protest will take place from 4.30pm on Saturday, November 30.

A Reform UK source said: "Our event has been planned at the existing venue for some time, we have used this hotel on a number of occasions and look forward to welcoming our party members from all over Scotland alongside our speakers including our deputy leader Richard Tice MP and party chairman Zia Yusuf.

"As the party of free speech we recognise the democratic right of individuals to protest peacefully and within the law."

When pressed on whether the party had attempted to change the venue, the source declined to comment further.

Perth Against Racism said they will give the party "a nice big Perth welcome" with music, speakers and poetry and told The National there will be no aggression from campaigners.

Speakers will include trade unionist and former STUC president Mike Arnott, and singer Katie Whittaker is set to perform.

In a statement, the group said: "We reject the far-right politics of racism and scapegoating promoted by Reform UK and attempts to normalise poisonous ideas and bring them into the mainstream.

"This is why, as soon as it emerged they were planning a Scotland conference in Perth, we started organising a peaceful protest outside their planned venue to show a majority of people in Perth and across Scotland oppose their views."

The group added that the new venue Reform UK had attempted to book was an hour and a half away from the city centre on foot, and congratulated the venue owners on the decision to reject the enquiry.

They said: "We see these changed of venue as a vindication of our concerns and reasons to protest. Reform UK wants to appear as a 'normal' party.

"But a 'normal' party doesn't run away to hide miles away from any population centre and has bookings cancelled.

"We hope this will contribute to a process of persuading voters locally and nationally to not give their vote to a party run by a millionaire that seeks to blame migrants and refugees for the problems in society."

The conference is set to be held on Saturday, November 30, in Perth with deputy leader Richard Tice listed as keynote speaker. Farage previously said it was "too dangerous" for him to campaign in Scotland.

Members of Reform UK are set to attend the event however no further details for the day or motions members will debate have been published to the public yet.

A gala dinner is also set to be held after the conference, from 6.30pm until 9.30pm.

Member can get a three-course dinner with wine in the company of Tice and others for £55.25.

The conference comes despite Reform UK having no formal leader and minimal structure in Scotland.

Reform came third place in several by-elections across Glasgow on Thursday.
