We’ll be heading to the international Edinburgh Fringe and sharing all the best shows we think should be highlighted and celebrated for their humour, confidence, insight and sometimes downright weirdness.
Adam Robertson will be reviewing a show called “Help: I’m a Nationalist” and interviewing a magician from Glasgow, who is living in Vegas and bringing his show home for Scots to marvel at. He even tried a trick on Adam mid-interview!
I will be reviewing a show looking at a new fantastical way to tell Scottish folktales, another where you get a dram to enjoy whilst hearing a highlight reel of Scottish history AND catching up with Scots legend Billy Kay at his one-day-only sit-down in Edinburgh.
Steph Brawn has caught up with writers of not one, but two shows looking back on the 2014 referendum. One focuses on a family who are split on how to vote and the second follows a young boy in school facing his first-time voting – with a few songs sprinkled in!

Our senior political reporter will be heading to Alex Salmond’s "The Ayes Have It! The Ayes Have It!" and sharing all the highlights, and maybe a few behind the scenes…

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
