As autumn arrives and the nights get darker faster, many families will be swapping their Saturday nights out for cosy evenings in front of the TV.
In a new study from McDonald’s, the company has helped families choose what to watch on Saturday evenings by revealing the nation’s favourite TV shows.
From Strictly Come Dancing and Britain’s Got Talent to I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, you can discover the best options for Saturday night viewing.
Plus, McDonald’s has shared meal deals that families can enjoy to create the perfect Saturday night.
McDonald’s Reveals the Perfect Autumn Night In
Seventy-five per cent of families now dedicate a special ‘family night-in’ to bond over TV, movies, or games. The survey also uncovered the top choices for food deliveries families are pairing with their nights in.
Leading the pack are local Indian or Chinese cuisines, favoured by 25% of families, followed closely by McDonald’s, preferred by 16%.
Forty-four per cent of families say they often turn to McDelivery for their ‘family night-in,’ enjoying the convenience of their favourite meals delivered right to their doorstep.
With the evolving dynamics of family TV time on Saturday nights, more than a third (35%) of families who watch TV shows together report feeling ‘very much’ closer as a result.
However, 64% believe the tradition of families watching TV together has become less common in recent years.
The study found a strong love for 90s classics like The Generation Game and Gladiators, with over half (56%) of parents feeling nostalgic about these shows.
McDonald’s recommends these go-to meals to complete the perfect family night:
The Feed the Family Deal (for four) - £14.99, returning on October 23: Choose two classic burgers and two core burgers, along with two medium fries and two small fries.
The Double Burger Deal (for two) - £9.99: This deal features two mouthwatering burgers and two fries, ideal for sharing with a friend or loved one.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
