TOP Scottish foreign editor David Pratt will be reporting exclusively for The National from Ukraine – as he returns two years on from Russia launching its war on the country.
In addition to his columns for The National and Sunday National, we will be running a regular diary, exclusive long reads, top analysis, powerful images and multimedia content from Pratt, as he files from the scene in Ukraine.
He will be visiting key locations and cities from the war so far – bringing in the voices of Ukrainians on the frontline and other key figures, with February 24 marking two years since the fighting began.
In his first report from the country since returning, which was published in The National today, Pratt set the scene for what was to come – and you can read it by clicking HERE.
The National’s editor Laura Webster (above) said: “When we ask our readers to tell us about the content they value from The National, a regular response is thorough foreign affairs coverage.
“David Pratt is renowned for his war reporting.
“As the fighting in Ukraine passes this grim two-year anniversary and enters a crucial, dangerous period, he’ll be delivering unmatched, on-the-ground content.
“His reportage will shed a light on the toll taken on the country up to now, as well as spotlight and give a platform to the Ukrainians who are living through this hell and fighting to survive.
“This is important journalism – which is why The National is investing in it and bringing it to our audience. We hope readers find it valuable.”
You will find David Pratt’s reporting on our website and in The National’s print edition, and follow us on social media for footage from Ukraine.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
