AMIDST all the extravagant promises being bandied about in this final run-up to polling day, along with all the deliberate stutterings and stammerings of an untrustworthy Prime Minister, all deliberately designed to hoodwink the electorate, we should all remember one thing.
This is an occupant of Number 10 who may say that he has an “oven-ready” deal just ready to go, which will “get Brexit done” and all will be magically solved and Britain can then float off into a wondrous new world where everything will be possible, but it’s not that simple.

This is a man who really wanted to take the country out of the EU without a deal. Give him a working majority next Thursday and all he has to do is ditch his wondrous agreement, which he has been so clever to obtain, bring in a very simple bill to the Commons which would take us out of the EU in a matter of weeks WITHOUT A DEAL, and hey presto, Brexit is done!
Be afraid. Be very afraid. Vote to stop Johnson at all costs.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
