IN July, the last straw for many Conservative MPs in relation to Johnson’s tenure at Number 10 was when he appointed to a government post an individual against whom a serious allegation of misconduct had been made, of which Johnson was aware. Nearly 60 ministers resigned, of whom the first was a certain Rishi Sunak.

This same Rishi Sunak appointed to his Cabinet Gavin Williamson, against whom a serious allegation of misconduct had been made, and of which Sunak was aware. As we know, Williamson has resigned, making it the third occasion he has left a Cabinet in disgrace.

This followed Sunak’s appointment of Suella Braverman, who had previously been dismissed from Cabinet for the use on two occasions of her personal email for Government business and sharing documents with someone not authorised to receive them, thus breaching the ministerial code. After her appointment, she admitted a further four instances of such breaches, without any action being taken by Sunak.

I think we can see a certain inconsistency here which

might be shameless but, sadly, is not surprising from the UK Government.
