SO the police extended an invitation to Nicola Sturgeon to attend an interview at a particular station on a particular day and time, and when she attended that appointment, she was arrested.

As arrests in Scotland should not take place unless there are reasonable grounds for suspecting an individual is involved in a crime, the police must now explain what their “reasonable grounds” were. They should also explain what their reasonable grounds were for arresting Peter Murrell and Colin Beattie, and why following their interviews all three of them were released without any charges.

Surely, as this police investigation is now in its second year, all three of them could have been interviewed ages ago, without the political implications attached to the word arrested, and with the same fruitless outcomes for the investigators, but absolutely welcomed with delight I’m sure in London, where the connotations attached to arrest will be considered as another nail in the SNP’s metaphorical coffin.
