THAT the UK Government is currently debating on whether or not to suspend the sale of arms to the most right-wing government in Israeli history informs us a great deal about its ethics, political direction of travel and institutional corruption.

Netanyahu and the neo-fascists in his administration appear determined to continue their genocidal policies in Gaza and the West Bank, impervious to international opinion, basic humanity and the wishes of some of their own people.

Let’s be transparently clear about this: the Israeli government is carrying out war crimes on a daily basis with indiscriminate attacks on innocent Palestinians and any individual or group trying to aid those being systematically slaughtered or starved to death by a government that is supported by most of the Western nations, principally the USA and the UK.

Boris Johnson defends the sale of weapons to Israel in his Daily Mail column by citing a war against terrorism, Suella Braverman adopts the role of genocide-denier by claiming there is international bias against Israel and present Cabinet ministers like Grant Shapps and Kemi Badenoch claim, erroneously, that the UK sells only a small percentage of arms to Netanyahu’s administration. Their lack of compassion and morality is plain for all to see but these senior figures in the Conservative party demonstrate just how reactionary it has become.

War profiteering evidently comes before the lives of thousands of blameless people. The Labour Party, unsurprisingly, continues to maintain a pusillanimous silence, placing what they believe is electoral popularity before conscience or genuine moral values.

The current tragedy in Gaza has highlighted the unacceptable influence that “Friends of Israel” groups have in the two major political parties in the UK and the sheer hypocrisy of the foreign policy of the USA, UK and the EU.

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Trump, was quoted recently as musing over how valuable seaside properties in Gaza would be in the near future, demonstrating a callous indifference to human life and an ignorant and irresponsible idiocy that doubtless makes him a valuable adviser to his absurd and moronic father-in-law.

The UK political scene has seldom appeared so hopeless and supine. A Prime Minister in thrall to the “nutters” (as John Major correctly noted) on the far right of the party, media attempts to resurrect Farage, Johnson and Truss and a Labour Party that can’t even muster up enough moral or political courage to demand a halt to the serial breaking of international law and war crimes by the state of Israel. It is an aggravating and wretched moral abyss that shows no signs of resolving itself in immediate or long-term future. The Scottish Government has courageously spoken out since the beginning of the crisis. Independence is our only hope now.

THE fuss and bother generated by the Hate Crime Act in Scotland has gone out of control. JK Rowling was correct to bring to the boil the right to criticise the current thoughts that transwomen are women and defend the right to say otherwise. But of course there are many bad actors on the stage.

Murdo Fraser has complained bitterly that he had a tweet by him recorded by the police – yet I understand the police informed him on March 26 that it was not recorded.

How is it, then, that he is still complaining about it and raising money to defend against their actions?

No law is perfect, and over time it is tailored to fit better the current need.
