JOHN Swinney has said a “new bond has been created between me and the Swifties” as he was quizzed on his favourite songs.

The American pop sensation is set to perform the first of her three Eras Tour gigs in Edinburgh on Friday night with thousands to descend on the city.

The First Minister has already welcomed the singer to the country and encouraged her to visit “Loch Tay Tay” which was renamed by Heart Scotland radio.

Speaking at a campaign event in Glasgow, Swinney was asked what his three favourite Swift songs are.

The question was met with audience’s laughter as was the First Minister’s pause before he started to answer.

“First of all, I really welcome Taylor Swift’s journey to Scotland and the fact that her tour is starting off in Scotland, I think that’s exciting.

Taylor Swift is bringing her Eras Tour to Edinburgh.

“The fact that the most beautiful place on the planet, Loch Tay, has been renamed Loch Tay Tay creates a new bond between me and the Swifties.”

Swinney said it was the area that he represents and that he feels a “strong bond with the Swifties”.

But Swinney then got to the part everyone was hotly anticipating and revealed his favourite Swift song.

“My very favourite Taylor Swift song, and you’ll appreciate this, is You’ve Got To Calm Down” in reference to the classic You Need To Calm Down song from Swift’s album Lover.

It seems that Swift-mania really is gripping everybody in Scotland.
