I ACTUALLY couldn’t really believe how sad I felt. Like many, I have expressed my frustration, anger and dismay with some of Alex Salmond’s actions and utterances in recent years, but his untimely death brought focus to his importance in my life as an independence supporter.

I could cry for his loss and yet this is someone I have never met. The loss for his family is of course immense but so too for Scotland, I believe. But one thing is worth noting – if you have to go, that’s a hell of a last public statement to go out on.
Alex Salmond, consummate politician to the end.

NOT faultless, but a giant he was. Scotland is left poorer without him, and when we rise again as an independent nation, he will be remembered. May God rest his soul and console his family in this hour of sorrow.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
