THERE are 8.3 billion human beings in the world but only a minority count in global politics. This inequality is unsustainable and has to change. If it does not change peacefully, ie if the US, UK, European former colonialists will not accept reduced influence with grace, then major conflict will follow.
Whilst I would not predict World War Three as inevitable, it seems likely that the world of “relative peace” in the West is over. Israel should be suspended from UN; otherwise the UN should fold and re-assemble. Power should be relative to national populations.

Ideally, Scotland should be an independent nation which avoids military conflicts via peaceful politics. However, how we achieve that is unknown at this time.
No, I reckon David Pratt is close to the real state of play but few will listen (The ‘rules-based international order’ has a distinctly hollow ring about it, Oct 17). Mad world.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
