BARRY Stewart (Letters, Nov 4) is very correct in asking why we celebrate a foreign country’s parliament being saved from the evil Guy Fawkes’s attempt to blow it to smithereens. It’s of course because Scottish schools teach us these things in history and “Scottish” television and “Scottish” radio make programmes about them.
We are taught all about how Alfred burnt the cakes but not taught about William Wallace’s brave fight against the tyrannical psychopath Edward I. We are taught about the other madman Henry the Eighth the serial killer, but not about Robert The Bruce’s decade-long struggle to survive against all the odds and his betrayal by a “Scot”.
We are told about the glorious reign of the English empire and not that England was the largest slave-trading nation on earth and of the millions of innocent people that were killed in the name of her/his Majesty.

We learn about the the glorious Lord Nelson but not about the absolutely inhuman press-ganging and threats to the Scots if their sons did not sign up to go and fight.
We were taught about how England ruled the waves, but nothing about how Scots invented just about everything people use today in all walks of life. We were taught England’s empire stretched all over the world, but not how Scottish kids were beaten black and blue in their classrooms if they dared speak their mother tongue.
We were taught about the great fire of London but not about the genocidal Highland Clearances, we were told football was invented by the English, when we all know that is an absolute pile of nonsense to say the least, and the worst lie of all that we are taught in our schools is that the abominable Glencoe massacre was just a fight between two clans, not a very deliberate order from the latest European psychopath to sit on England’s horrid throne to the Campbells to prove their loyalty to this Dutch clown or they would be for the chop too, and to ensure not a man, woman or child survived the genocide of their clan.

Even today, nearly 1000 years on from when England was taken over by the Flemish in 1066 by William The Bastard, we are still not even allowed our own national broadcaster as we need to be treated like the colonials we are, so day in, day out we are told about the ferries but not about the absolutely catastrophic and 20-plus times worse calamity of the English aircraft carriers fiasco. We are told our schools and hospitals are failing but not told that incidentally they are miles better than England’s. We are told there’s no oil up here but then have to watch as over 100 new licences are handed out. We are constantly told that our trains are failing when they are blatantly not, but not told about the mind-boggingly stupid and expensive HS2 without a terminal in London.
We are told our drug death rate is too high but not told England’s is rising too and we are not allowed to do anything to resolve our own drug death rates as England has to be able to shout from the roof tops that we are failing. We are told our government cannot run its own country properly yet it never goes over budget as we are not allowed to borrow despite being one of the richest nations on earth, but as a nation we are never told that we are given only a fraction of what is actually needed from the huge money stolen from England every single moment of every day from Scotland’s huge resources by Westminster to be able to run our country properly. The list goes on and on and on.

We are told that the English Government work within strict fiscal rules which are literally made up as they go along. We are told we can’t have a referendum to leave this “voluntary” union, we watch as they change the rules every five minutes to make our escape from this absolute daylight robbery going on from Westminster, and despite them literally stealing trillions of pounds from us over the last few decades, they are still trillions in debt.
Today we find ourselves not being allowed access to our own huge resources and not allowed to run our own affairs by people who couldn’t run the proverbial bath, but are allowed to control our land and our huge resources? Gimme a break!
As if things couldn’t get any worse, we have a wee shower of wee nyaffs calling themselves Scots who fight tooth and nail to ensure their own country never prospers!

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
