I MARVEL at the intellectual deep thinking of Neal Ascherson and Gerry Hassan. It is on Mr Ascherson’s piece that I comment on here.

Over the past few years, reading the unkind letters about the actions of Nicola Sturgeon’s appeal to the Court of Session/Supreme Court I had begun to think that I was the only reader who thought she was correct in that action.

Mr Ascherson’s opinion clarified for me Sturgeon’s reason for taking that route at the time.

My opinion has always been that civil disobedience was a crucial element in our struggle, but reading his piece concerning institutional disobedience and the forms it should take opened up a realisation that this gives us a greater strength to our aims.
