JOHN HUGHES is hoping that his CV will speak for itself as he looks for a route back into football.
The former Falkirk, Hibernian, Hartlepool and Inverness manager has been out of the game since an ill-fated spell at Raith Rovers in 2017, but after enjoying a sabbatical from the dugout, he says that the itch to get back on the training pitch has returned once more.
“I want to get back into the game now," Hughes said. "I’ve maybe been enjoying myself a wee bit too much, but I feel I still have plenty to offer.
“I don’t really play the game and I don’t have an agent, I just sort of see what is out there.
“I’ve been close to one or two things, and even if nothing comes for me, I can look back at what we have won and the people I have played with and worked with and be satisfied. It’s been fantastic. But I would like to get back in.
"I don’t know what people’s perception of me is, but the CV stands for itself. It’s football we’re playing, I don’t play route one football, I try to play total football, the hardest thing in the game.
“You speak to Ryan Christie or you speak to any of my former players, they will all say that about me.
“I can talk about the tactics and the coaching that I can offer because it’s provided success."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
