SCOTLAND was partying last night after a fantastic performance against England at Wembley ... but that didn't quite reach all corners.
Reminding us exactly how joyless some Unionists can be about Scottish success stories was LibDem MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton.
Yes, that party does still exist – we realise some may have forgotten them after the devout opponents of indyref2 came out of the Holyrood election this year with just four seats.

So, what was riling him up last night at 11:19pm after the result? He's not over Jo Swinson's defeat in 2019.
In response to an SNP tweet with a gif of Nicola Sturgeon celebrating in a Scotland top, he tweeted: "This is, once again, the footage of the FM cheering the defeat of Jo Swinson, but with a Scotland top photoshopped onto her and a Hamden park background filter. Is it really that hard to capture spontaneous outbursts of joy from someone who is on camera, literally every day?"

(We think you mean "Hampden", Alex...)
The Scottish LibDem MSP, who has since deleted the tweet, is still fuming that Nicola Sturgeon DARED to show her happiness at one of her party's rising stars, Amy Callaghan, defeating LibDem leader Jo Swinson to win East Dunbartonshire for the SNP.
He clearly thinks over-celebrating is a moral failure. Let's hope he doesn't see that video of how Ed Davey marked Sarah Green's victory for the party in the Chesham and Amersham by-election.

Perhaps it's no surprise that, despite setting out his excitement for the game in the morning, Cole-Hamilton didn't say anything about the great result before this ridiculous tweet. He clearly thinks celebrating upsets is an unforgivable insult to the other party (reminder: England were tipped as favourites to win Euro 2020).
We’ve spent every Friday night at the end of our drive with the neighbours, since March 2020. No need to stop tonight. Come on Scotland. 🏴 pic.twitter.com/H52tB56SBS

Unsurprisingly, Twitter users didn't let him away with his nonsense about the celebratory GIF.
You’re a miserable sod.

Ugh Alex, get a grip.

Some of us saw that and realised it was meant to be amusing. It would of course be rather difficult to find FM cheering like that in FM's questions or a coronavirus briefing.

The best time to catch her like that is when she's just eviscerated a rep from one of the Better Together parties ( interchangeable, so indistinguishable) during FMQs

Corrected it for you.
That's how memes work Alex, you recycle a popular image or gif. Hope this helps

AHC does not understand how GIFs work.

Also, every time he does a grumpy tweet about this I remember @AmyCallaghanSNP winning her seat and it makes my smile. https://t.co/14fJYYAUsE
After a moment of such deserved national pride this MSP tweets against a gif based on a moment of joy over a victory that all party leaders everywhere do. Unhealthy obsession? More like unreal obsession. Then he shows he doesn’t know the name of the National Stadium. Very bizarre https://t.co/NvBpZKcEyv

Folk who use the word “Churlish” may never have actually seen a *Churl*…. Here’s one in its natural setting. #SCOENG #YESSIR #Scotland https://t.co/UfMjbORP8I

I love how Alex feels he has to explain the photoshopped top & background. As if some ppl might have thought wow Nicola Sturgeon put on a Scotland top, went to an empty Hampden (with a p) & exactly recreated the cheer she gave on that gif from when Amy Callaghan won her seat. 😅 https://t.co/POLoMofe8p

The Jouker partied enough for both Alex and ourselves, at least.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
