THE morning after a football match in which Scotland outperformed England and were unlucky to come away with only a point, we are understandably celebrating.
Some England fans, however, have hit back β suggesting it's ridiculous to be celebrating a draw.
That might hold a little more weight had the game not been at Wembley, had England not been tipped as favourites for Euro 2020 by some and had English pundits not spent the week talking about how sure they were they would win.
One such talking head was former England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand.
Prior to the game, he said: "England are going to win. I can't see anything else, I'm telling you. I'm confident. I've never been as confident about a game in the championship."

Reader, they didn't win. And Amy Macdonald, as always, hit the right note with that clown emoji.
Many of us will have seen or know fans from across the world who were supporting Scotland last night for spite alone β the constant talk of "it's coming home" from England supporters only for campaigns to end in defeat has earned a few enemies out of annoyance.
Rio clearly hasn't learned that lesson and got caught out again.
Line of Duty actor Martin Compston weighed in too, saying: "Good thing they donβt mind replaying Gazzaβs goal."

Plenty of other Scots had points to make as well.
I was thinking about this at FT. I'm not big into the scottish English rivalry, but pundits like this make it hard to support them. Good performance tonight from Scotland.

Itβs this arrogance that makes Scotland try harder and pisses us fans off so much!!

This is why we're celebrating a draw @jamessturnbull

@rioferdy5 sometimes we all get it wrong. Am sure he will hold his hands up later on with @GaryLineker #ENGSCO PS Never listen to pundits. They invariably get it wrong. https://t.co/JPMxboNmd7

@rioferdy5 adding to the arrogant belief that England are all conquering.

They're actually the most overrated, overhyped and underachieving nation in world football.
A shame as their players and Southgate seem decent likeable guys....the English media though π#ENG #English https://t.co/nZHUEhEqNW
Can we see this for the next 25 years too please https://t.co/XOCzZgPIGk

Now, on to the next game...
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. Weβve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who arenβt really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So thatβs why weβve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate β and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about β people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Letβs get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
