SCOTTISH darts star William Borland produced a nine-dart finish at the PDC World Darts Championship this weekend, clinching a 3-2 first-round win against Blackburn’s Bradley Brooks.
The clip of the 25-year-old debutant from East Calder hitting the perfect score quickly went viral across social media. The showstopping effort was the 11th nine-dart finish at the championships – and the first one since 2016.
Borland hailed the result at London’s Alexandra Palace as the “best night of my life”.

"It is a privilege to hit a nine-darter anywhere, and to hit it on the biggest stage of them all is just unbelievable,” he told journalists.
On Wednesday, he will take on Ryan Searle in a second-round showdown.
Following his victory, Borland told reporters a little about what spurred him on.
“Everyone was singing ‘Scotland get battered everywhere they go’ and that just kind of got me going,” he said.

“That was spurring me on, because I wanted to get it up them and stuff,” he added with a cheeky grin.
The following day saw Angus darts star Alan Soutar’s victory in a 3-2 win over Brazil’s Diogo Portela. Soutar donned a Scotland shirt for the occasion, as well as an Arbroath FC pin badge, and draped himself in a Saltire as he left the stage.
“I’ve always loved the Scotland-England banter,” he commented after being booed by England fans.
“As soon as I walked onto stage the crowd went straight for me. I thought to myself: ‘Oh no, what have I done?’
“But I’m okay with that … they aren’t booing me personally.
“I saw Willie Borland getting it the other night but he banged in a nine-darter to keep them quiet.
“Willie’s game was just mad and what’s happened since is great for him and Scottish darts.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
