RANGERS fan group the Union Bears have opened up on their decision to move to a more central spot inside Ibrox for last night's League Cup clash against Queen of the South.
The supporters moved from their usual BF1 section to BF3 so they were positioned behind the goal in the Broomloan stand.
Union Bears say they have been in communication with the club to move to the section to allow for a better atmosphere inside the stadium and to allow for the group to expand.
The group say the club have offered a "stagnant approach" to the proposal and as a result, they were forced to take the move into their own hands.
A statement from Union Bears read: "For last night's match against Queen of the South, the Union Bears were positioned in BF3. The group took the decision to buy tickets in BF3 after a lack of progress being made to accommodate a central move.
"The Union Bears feel that the club's stagnant approach to a central move has gone on for too long, so we found ourselves with no other option than to buy tickets for this section ourselves.
"As a group we unanimously believe that a central move is vital to improve the atmosphere at Ibrox. Last night clearly showed this, as Union Bears and Broomloan collective members stood together with those already in BF3, creating an atmosphere and section to be proud of.
"The players showed their appreciation for the atmosphere created by coming over to the fans in the central section after the full-time whistle. A central move will also allow the group to grow and reach our full potential.
"However, this is not a new proposal by the group. The decision to buy tickets in BF3 for last night's match comes after years of broken-down dialogue and promises given.
"We ask that those already in BF3 stand with us and be part of something big. A central move has considerable potential to improve the atmosphere at Ibrox, and also help the active fan scene at Rangers grow further.
"Prior to last Saturday's match at home to Ross County, Union Bears members consulted season ticket holders in BF3. This was conducted verbally in person with our members informing those in BF3 that the group will be positioned there against Queen of the South.
"The response to these verbal surveys was profoundly positive, with no negative issues given regarding a central move for the group.
"Additionally, a number of those surveyed also questioned as to why the Union Bears were not already positioned in the centre of the Broomloan front.
"This would be a big move for the Union Bears. It would be a step forward that will help take the Rangers fan scene and atmosphere to the next level.
"We appreciate all the backing and support that we receive, and we need it more than ever to succeed with this project. We will continue to engage with fans and the club regarding this move."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
