Jose Mourinho is heading back to the dugout, with the Portuguese manager set to join Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce on a two-year deal. Come August, there's a chance he and his team could face Rangers in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Having finished second place behind Turkish league winners Galatasaray during the 2023/24 campaign, Fenerbahce will enter next season's UEFA Champions League at its second-qualifying round stage.

According to Sky Germany, Mourinho is now set to join Fenerbahce, and, should he manage to navigate that UCL tie and progress to the competition's third qualifying round, he and his players could be drawn against Rangers.

As broken down by Scotland’s Coefficient on X (formerly Twitter), here are the possible permutations that could see Mourinho on the touchline at Ibrox.

With a new manager in the building, Mourinho's arrival could also hand Ryan Kent a lifeline at the Turkish side.

The former Rangers winger has faced a difficult time in Turkey since leaving Rangers last summer, and only managed to feature 18 times under former manager Ismail Kartal.

Mourinho, on the other hand, has been out of management since his dismissal from Roma in January.

Despite winning the UEFA Conference League for the Italian side, the Portuguese coach was eventually sacked when Roma dropped to ninth place in the Serie A table.

Under new coach Daniele De Rossi, Roma ultimately finished in sixth at the end of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign.
