A GERMAN newspaper has praised the conduct of the Tartan Army after thousands arrived into the city of Cologne.

The Cologne-based daily paper Kolnische Rundschau published a story thanking Scotland fans for bringing “good mood and party spirit” to the city ahead of tonight’s match against Switzerland.

An Instagram post with the message “Dear Scots: We love you!” was published by the paper on Wednesday and has garnered more than 3000 likes.

In particular, Scots were praised for helping an elderly resident across a city square.

Pictures show two men in kilts and t-shirts holding umbrellas over the woman to protect her from the rain.

“Despite the bad weather and numerous rain showers, the mood remained good and there were no riots in the old town,” the report said.

“For days, the Scottish fans have been delighting the crowd with their good mood and party spirit.”

The Tartan Army was also praised for celebrating local footballing legend Lukas Podolski, who spent his early career playing for FC Koln.

While another read: “The nicest and most relaxed fans I've ever met”.
