THOUSANDS of people have signed a petition calling on Scotland to play Germany every year as the Tartan Army has taken over the country.
Scotland is set to play Hungary in Stuttgart on Sunday evening, in a game that will be decisive for the team’s future in the Euros.
Regardless of the team’s success, it appears Scotland fans have already won over the hearts of the hosts, as a new petition on change.org has called for an annual match to celebrate the friendship between the nations.

Started by Max Kirkchi, the petition states that “a bond is forming between the fans of Scotland and Germany” and Germans would be cheering on Scotland.
It adds: “We suggest that the DFB and the Scottish FA organise an annual friendly match. Ideally, Germany and Scotland take turns hosting the event. It could be in Cologne next year, and in Glasgow the year after.
“This would improve relations between the two countries and their citizens, boost tourism, and most importantly, it would be a great experience for everyone involved.
“You won't find a single pub owner in Germany who wouldn't take the Scots back in a heartbeat. Why don't we take this opportunity and start a wonderful friendship between two football-loving countries and their fans?”
So far, more than 9500 people have signed the petition.
One fan said: “This is the feelgood 'romance' we all need".
Another joked: “Great opportunity to keep a fantastic bond going...but only if germany give us a 3 nil head start every game!”
Germany hammered Scotland 5-1 in the opening game of the tournament. However, a 1-1 draw over Switzerland on Wednesday has given the side a fresh glimmer of hope as they look to progress to the last four.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
