Stephen Robinson has confirmed Greg Kiltie will see a specialist over an ankle injury.

The St Mirren manager was without the midfielder for the pre-season win over Dunfermline on Saturday and the player is set to miss tonight's showdown against Greenock Morton.

Kiltie has suffered an ankle injury which hasn't settled after taking part in the trip to the Pinatar Arena in Spain meaning a consultation over the issue has been scheduled.

It comes as a second blow in pre-season for St Mirren after the news Conor McMenamin would require surgery on a tendon injury which flared up on international duty.

"I'm not a medical expert, it's a tendon injury. Conor played through it last season, we tried to go very conservative with it," said Robinson of McMenamin's situation.

"He went on international duty and it flared up again and we had to make the decision to get it done. It was one of those where he was niggling all season - and fair play to the boy for playing.

"Greg Kiltie - he had the same ankle injury last year and it just hasn't quite settled down after pre-season again so we need to get Greg looked at.

"Those are two early disappointments for us and we have got a small squad as it is so it is important we get them injuries back as quick as we can.

"I don't think Greg will be out a long time if anything is needed done at all but we certainly need a couple more bodies in the squad."

Caolan Boyd-Munce was another injury absentee for the 1-0 win over Dunfermline but will return this week either against Morton or for a closed-door match against Airdrie on Wednesday.

On the Northern Ireland internationalist, Robinson said: "He's got blisters, which sounds like nothing but his whole foot is infected.

"I know myself, I've had them before and it's very difficult to play with.

"You don't take any chances with it in a friendly. He'll be back involved on Tuesday or Wednesday and fit to go from there."

Robinson's side travel to Cappielow on Tuesday for a Renfrewshire derby against Morton. Despite the rivalry, which the manager admits he underestimated last year, Robinson has vowed to treat the tie as a pre-season fixture rather than take any unnecessary risks.

"I wasn't quite aware of the passion between both sets of supporters but we have to use it ultimately as a pre-season game," he said.

"I will use players, minutes are my priority, getting through without injuries is my priority. Results matter when you get to Europe and the season kicks off.

"It's a good game, we picked four really tough games for pre-season starting with Dunfermline because we want to be tested."
