Joan Jordan has been told his future lies away from Sevilla despite the La Liga club rejecting a loan offer from Rangers.
The midfielder, 30, was targeted by Philippe Clement in a loan move but the approach was knocked back by Sevilla on financial grounds.
It's thought Sevilla rejected the loan deal due to the fact they would have to cover a significant portion of Jordan's wages.
However, reports in Spain have suggested Rangers could return to the table with a new offer.
Jordan has cut his holiday short to try and impress at Sevilla and earn the right to play at the club again but sporting director Victor Orta has told the player and his representatives that he is "not part of the project".
Orta told ABC: "They have been told that they are not part of the project. We respect their contracts, but it is better for them to choose other options.

"The club informed Jordán's representatives of its intention, we thought that his cycle had ended. It has been very clear to him.
"His representative had a meeting with the club and it was clearly stated to him."
Fabrizio Romano claimed over the weekend that an approach from Rangers was rejected with the deal off due to the financial stumbling block.
However, Spanish reports then suggested a new offer could be received by Sevilla for the player - the La Liga club have also thrown out an offer from Alaves for Jordan.
Jordan is under contract at Sevilla until 2027 and the club are willing to hold out until they receive a permanent transfer offer or loan deal that is financially beneficial before sanctioning an exit.
