Brighton are reportedly closing in on a transfer deal to sign Matt O'Riley from Celtic.

The midfielder, 23, is thought to be set to become the newest Brighton recruit in the coming days.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims a verbal agreement between the two clubs is "almost done".

The Denmark internationalist is in line to follow Ferdi Kadioglu to Brighton with finer details being ironed out.

Romano stated on X: "Brighton are closing in on Matt O’Riley deal with Celtic, verbal agreement almost done!

"O’Riley set to become next signing for #BHAFC after Kadioglu done, working on final details then all sealed. Here we go, soon."

Quizzed on O'Riley transfer interest from Brighton, Brendan Rodgers said: "Matt trained this morning as he always does.

"He is the consummate professional and has been brilliant.

"There have been a number of offers gone in for Matt but there is nothing new to report or add to that either."

On whether there comes a time when transfer offers will be too late to be considered, Rodgers added: "Yes. For any player, it is not going to go right down to the wire. We have got a big week next week after our game at the weekend.

"We will be preparing for our last game in this block of games. I wouldn't want that to be interrupted at all. We are pretty clear on where we are and what it is we need to do."
