Steven Gerrard reportedly plotted another Rangers reunion at Al-Ettifaq before the transfer window closed.

The former Ibrox manager has made use of his wide-ranging contacts book while out in Saudia Arabia.

Gerrard brought ex-Rangers kitman Jim McAllister to Ettifaq with coach Tom Culshaw also making the move to the Middle East to work with the former Liverpool captain.

Andy Firth - who was signed by Gerrard for Rangers - also joined the Saudi Pro League side as a goalkeeping coach as part of Gerrard's vision.

Gerrard also utilised his Liverpool links with Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum signing for the club under his management.

The former Rangers manager even signed two former Celtic players at Al-Ettifaq with Moussa Dembele and Jack Hendry major arrivals in his first transfer window.

Now, it's been reported that Gerrard had ambitions to make a transfer move for Fashion Sakala - another player he first signed at Rangers.

According to The Scottish Sun, rumours in Suadi Arabia are rife over interest from Gerrard in a reunion with the Zambian forward.

Speculation had broken out on Monday over a possible move for Sakala from Al-Fayha to Ettifaq to work with Gerrard.

Any move would have to be facilitated by a transfer exit for one of Ettifaq's foreign players with Demerai Gray a contender to leave the club during the window.

However, no move materialised for Gray and he remains part of the Ettifaq squad this season.

After facing Gerrard out in Saudi Arabia, Sakala met his former manager following a goalless draw.

He said: “It's always special to see the man who trusted me playing for Rangers. I had a good time with him, and it was nice to see him. It’s just unlucky that I didn’t score – I tried, I really wanted to score! It’s just unfortunate. It’s always a pleasure to meet such legends in the game and getting good advice from him is always a pleasure.

“I’m enjoying playing in Saudi Arabia very much. The league is good. I wish I had scored on Saturday; I was really looking forward to scoring and it was just unfortunate not to score. I tried my best and the team played very well."

Sakala would go on to haunt his former boss in the next meeting between the clubs though as he netted a brace.
