Kris Boyd believes the structure at Rangers is broken as he reflected on John Bennett's decision to stand down. 

Bennett resigned as chairman of Rangers effective immediately due to health issues, the club announced on Saturday.

Bennett, who succeeded Douglas Park in the role last April, will be temporarily replaced by former director John Gilligan.

During his tenure, Bennett oversaw the hiring of manager Philippe Clement after Michael Beale's dismissal.

Rangers are currently without a chief executive following James Bisgrove's departure this summer and are yet to play a home match at Ibrox Stadium this season due to ongoing renovation delays.

Boyd understands that Bennett's wellbeing must come first but isn't surprised at the decision due to the increased stick the 61-year-old has received.

"John Gilligan is in temporarily to fulfil the role of the chairman," Boyd stated on Sky Sports. "I think for John Bennett, I hope everything is fine. I think your health is the most important thing.

"It must hurt when you put in the amount of money that these guys have at the top of the tree for Rangers. The amount of money that they have put into the football club and to be criticised constantly.

"But listen, the reality is that's what happens when you are at a big football club and things aren't going right.

"I'm sure they would've said the same, previous owners, and that's why they were in the position they were in.

"You're right though, I think it's another role that needs filled. The structure of Rangers for me right now is broken and they need to get it fixed. 

"James Bisgrove decided to move on and Jim Gillespie was headhunted and led to believe that he was going to take up the role as chief executive. That's no longer happening. He's knocked that back for whatever reason. 

"So, you look at it right now and there is huge roles within the football club that need to get filled, and filled quickly, because personally, and I know people will say that it doesn't have a knock-on on the football field, but when you've got a manager who can't concentrate fully on what he needs to deliver on the pitch because there's other things bubbling away in the background, it does have an impact on what happens on the pitch. 

"Rangers need to get a proper structure in place that allows top to the bottom to go and flourish."

Clement discussed the news prior to Rangers' Scottish Premiership match against Dundee United, and said: "It is a pity for the whole club because he has been working day and night for the club with all the passion.

"But that's life. If you are sick, don't feel well, it is the most important thing to stay healthy.

"The decision was more one the doctors made and against his heart, but sometimes you have to do things against your heart to stay healthy and everybody hopes he will feel better soon."
