Sam Lammers, once a misfit striker for Rangers, scored a vital equaliser for FC Twente in their Europa League league phase opener on Wednesday, securing a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
After Christian Eriksen had put the hosts ahead with a stunning first-half strike, Lammers capitalised on a costly mistake to level the score in the second half.
Lammers, who struggled during his time in Scotland before being loaned to FC Utrecht and then subsequently offloaded permanently to Twente over the summer, showcased his talent by dispossessing Eriksen and coolly finishing past United's goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The goal sent Twente's 4,000+ traveling fans into a frenzy, highlighting Lammers' redemption on a European stage, and perhaps his ability to make the headlines in a positive sense.

Despite United's efforts to reclaim the lead during the final 22 minutes, including attempts from Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee, they were unable to find the back of the net again.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Lammers suggested his team were actually unlucky not to have left Manchester with maximum points.
"There was spaces in the counter-attack and if we played it a little bit better then we could have won," the 27-year-old said.
"Of course, last 10 minutes it was a little but tricky. We had to stay back and defend the goal, but yeah there were definitely chances to also take the three points. Although we are very pleased with one point.
"We are a team that want to play with confidence, we want to play as well. We knew Manchester is a strong team so sometimes we had to drop back and wait for the counter-attack, and that's what we did.
"That's what we did, we waited for a mistake, and that's how we scored the goal as well. We had two or three other moments where we could've scored but like I said, very pleased."
"As a player you don't really notice this," he said of his goalscoring form being better on the road.
"But I think there's not many better places away from home to score than Old Trafford. I enjoyed every moment of it and we can celebrate in the dressing room."
