Ally McCoist is preparing to receive an OBE on Wednesday - and his footballing colleagues were very intrigued to know more.

Explaining to viewers why he wasn't providing commentary at any of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League matches, the former Rangers striker said: "I've been awarded an OBE and I'm going to pick it up at Windsor Castle tomorrow."

Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott joined McCoist and host Laura Woods on the TNT Sports Goals Show panel, with the ex-England defender's teaming up to ask the 62-year-old a few important questions.

"All we were wondering is what you were going to wear," Ferdinand stated.

"Like are you going to be wearing underwear?"

"First of all, is he wearing a kilt?," Lescott chimed in.

And McCoist responded laughing and said: "I nearly did, but because it's a morning investiture, I decided it's lounge suit."

"That's a disappointment," Ferdinand bemoans.

"You are not the first to have said that," McCoist continued. "It could've been a kilt. I'll wear it for you at the Christmas night out. How does that sound?"

Back to the award, the Rangers legend then went on to explain in more details as to why he was being recognised by the royals.

"Believe it or not, I think it was for services to football and broadcasting," he chuckled.

"Everyone has been genuinely nice and pleased for me, apart from Fletch, he's devastated because I've done him out of a rib-eye and chips in Bratislava. He's shocked."

The amusing chat wasn't over there though as Ferdinand hinted that McCoist had actually requested more tickets than he was allowed for his OBE ceremony.

"There's only one person I know who's ever gone to this and asked for more tickets than you're allocated - this man here," the Manchester United hero suggested.

"He's asked the Royal Family for more tickets, it's out of order. It's unbelievable."

McCoist kept tight lipped on numbers, despite the panel's best efforts.

"I'm not prepared to say, that's information that I'm not going to divulge," he commented.

"That's classified info, I can't be giving that out."
