Rugby fans will be served alcohol at Hampden during Scotland's biggest derby later this year.

In December, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby will meet at the national football stadium in a schedule quirk.

The Scotstoun club will play the opening leg of the competition at Hampden on Sunday, December 22. Kick-off will be at 3pm.

Tickets for the match will go on general sale on Friday, October 25 at 10am.

One of the major contentious issues around Scottish rugby's biggest fixture revolves around alcohol legislation.

The sale of booze has been banned inside Scottish football stadiums since 1980.

Al Kellock - managing director of Warriors - has confirmed that alcohol will be permitted for this game - just one week on from the Scottish League Cup final, where there will be not one drop of beer sold.

“Yes, there will be the usual licensing,” Kellock confirmed. “They're used to concerts here so there are no issues from that perspective.

"It will be the usual set-up they have for concerts, so supporters will be able to enjoy a drink at their seats.

"I think there may have been some challenges at the Celtic Park final but they’re used to holding concerts here, they're set up for it."
