Rangers hero Ally McCoist has responded to Martin O’Neill’s brutal assessment of the current Ibrox side - which the former Celtic manager named as the worst in thirty years.
Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park continued an underwhelming start to the season for the Gers who sit six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Recent comments from O’Neill saw the former Hoops boss claim Philippe Clement’s side is ‘unrecognisable’ from the ones he faced under Alex McLeish and Dick Advocaat in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Speaking on TalkSPORT’s breakfast show, McCoist refused to go that far – but admitted the situation at Ibrox is hugely concerning. In response to O’Neill’s comments, the 62-year-old said: "Well that [this being the worst Rangers team in 30 years] is up for debate as the fact of the matter is they went down to the Third Division. Everything else he says is 100 per cent right.

"It's agony to hear but he's right what he says.
"There is a massive gulf between the teams at this moment in time. He's also right that Rangers are capable of going there - or anywhere - and getting a result. But to do it consistently on a regular basis? Nah, miles off it.
“And I don't think there's going to be an immediate quick fix, sadly. That's the problem. Martin, who generally and nearly always speaks an awful lot of sense, is probably spot on then, sadly."
