As Rangers prepare for tonight’s crunch tie with Aberdeen, Kris Boyd says “it wouldn’t be a surprise” if Aberdeen were to triumph at Pittodrie.
The pundit and former Rangers forward discussed the Gers’ struggle to put in convincing performances so far this season, which has seen them drop eight points from their opening nine games and struggle to get over the line against the likes of St Mirren.
Philippe Clement’s side will look to make up some ground on Celtic and Aberdeen in the title race tonight – a win at Pittodrie would close the gap to the Dons to three points.
Speaking to Sky Sports this afternoon, Boyd said he wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Thelin's side were to come away with a victory. “Aberdeen fans will be turning up expecting to win the game,” he said.

“They've started the season really well, especially at home. Rangers have been poor on the road, I think they've scored one goal away from home and they're going to have to find a way to change that tonight if they're going to get the three points.
“It's not been good enough for Rangers but tonight gives them that opportunity maybe just to turn the corner and see where it takes them, because I don't expect them to catch Celtic over the season.
“But it's one thing being behind Celtic for Rangers fans but if they're behind Aberdeen as well, it doesn't make for good reading.
🗣️ "It wouldn't be a surprise if Aberdeen are to win. It is one Rangers can not afford to lose."

He continued: “Looking at Rangers right now, everything's kind of huff and puff. They're never really in charge of a game. The weekend there, obviously, they beat St Mirren but you'd expect Rangers at home to win those types of games comfortably.
“Everything's a fight right now and they're going to need that tonight because there's one thing, you know, Aberdeen will be up for it, they will make it very difficult for Rangers as they always do when Rangers go to Pittodrie.
“Aberdeen have totally been transformed under Jimmy Thelin and what Rangers team is going to turn up tonight? We don't know.”
He added: “It wouldn't be a surprise if Aberdeen were to win tonight because of the way they've been performing, as I said, at home and Rangers away from home.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
