Cyriel Dessers remains undeterred by the scrutiny surrounding his performance at Rangers, confidently asserting that the pressure to convert goalscoring opportunities is a challenge faced by even the top strikers in the world.
Dessers netted his ninth goal of the 2024/25 campaign on Thursday to help Rangers earn a credible away draw against Olympiacos in the Europa League.
The 29-year-old, who has featured 19 times this season, has never shied away from expressing his belief in both his abilities and the potential of his teammates.
He also candidly acknowledges that if he were to significantly improve his finishing, he might not have found his place in Glasgow.

There is only one clear solution to Scottish football’s pyro problem
“This is life as a striker," the Rangers talisman told reporters. "I was watching the Champions League this week, and I see unbelievable strikers miss chances. So who am I, as Cyriel Dessers, not to miss chances?
"Obviously, you’re always going to miss more than you score. That’s the life of a striker. You know that there will always be a perception about that, but that’s life. If I would score three chances every game then I would probably not be at Rangers either."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
